Adopt a pet

April 30th is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, a perfect reminder that bringing home a pet is more than a purchase, it’s a life-saving decision. Choosing adoption not only changes the life of an animal in need, but it can also bring unmatched joy and companionship into your home.

Pet Adoption

Why Adoption is Better than Buying

When families choose to adopt rather than buy, they directly support animal welfare efforts and help reduce pet overpopulation.

  1. You’re Saving a Life

Animal shelters and rescues are often at capacity. Adopting gives a homeless pet a second chance at a loving home.
  2. You Help Break the Cycle of Overbreeding

Buying pets (especially from unverified sources) can contribute to irresponsible breeding. Adoption supports ethical, humane practices instead.
  3. Most Pets Are Vet-Ready

Most adopted pets are already vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped, saving you time and initial veterinary costs.
  4. You Get a Better Match for Your Lifestyle

Shelter staff work closely with animals and can help match you with a pet that fits your home, activity level, and experience.
Parfait is available for adoption through PAWS.

Uptown Veterinary Clinic spent the day with Parfait, a beautiful three-year old dog, waiting for her forever home. PAWS will allow families to foster pets to ensure they are a good fit. They also have a program called “doggy-day-out” where you can play with a shelter pet for a day and introduce them to a community or treat them to a day of fun. Here, our vet tech, Olivia treated Parfait to a day at Arts in the Park.
